This part time 1st shift (9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.) M-F position will assist participants toward gaining independence and provide meaningful experiences. Responsibilities include assisting participants with personal care, assisting on and off vans, break time and lunch set-up.
Ability to use basic computer programs (Microsoft Office suite) to complete electronic documentation and basic computer functions. HS Diploma or GED required.

Title: Personal Independence Services Aide
Responsible to: Personal Independence Services Program Director
Objective: To assist participants in having meaningful experiences and provide assistance toward independence under supervision of the Program Director.
Duties:

Work with individuals in all areas of the Personal Independence Services program according to the participant’s individual service plan. Be familiar with service action steps for participants.

Be responsible for assisting persons with disabilities to use the restroom according to the personal care schedule.

Be responsible for documenting on assigned individuals as assigned.
-
Willingness to do independent reading or take training to become more familiar with position.
-
Inform supervisor of incidents/participant needs as they occur.
-
Learn and implement HDC policies and procedures.
-
Ensure implementation of ICF/ID regulations and DIA rules.
-
Riding vans to ensure the safety of ICF/ID residents.
-
Adhere to safety procedures/practices. Be alert to any safety concerns.

Attend all PI meetings and training and meet with supervisor as needed.

Assist with lunch check-in, meal and break setup as assigned.
-
Assist participants with eating procedures as assigned.
-
Inform supervisor of equipment/supply needs before stock runs out.
-
Be responsible for assisting participants on and off the vans.
-
Inform supervisor at least two weeks prior to using vacation or personal time whenever possible.
-
Follows HIPAA and confidentiality policies.

Qualifications:
Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to treat persons with disabilities as equals
Ability to empathize with participants
Ability to organize time
Ability to work independently and/or with partner
Flexibility in dealing with people
Flexibility in dealing with varied and changing needs
Ability to lift from floor/carry/transfer individuals and adaptive equipment in excess of 50 pounds
Ability to carry/escort individuals in excess of 50 pounds and utilize PBS techniques during behavior problems
Ability to accept/give constructive criticism
Ability to meet employment requirements (i.e. health screening, TB test)
Ability to understand and follow the policies and procedures of HDC
Training and Experience:
High School diploma or GED equivalent
Some experience or contact with individuals with disabilities desirable.
