Full-time 2nd (2:00 pm-10:30 pm), 3rd (10:00 pm-6:30 am) and Part –time 1st, 2nd & 3rd shift positions available to assist with and teach independent living skills to youth and adults with disabilities in a relaxed, residential setting. Will be required to work every other weekend and some holidays. Will be required to have the ability to lift 50lbs. No C.N.A. required.

Title: Resident Aide
Responsible to: Program Supervisor
Objective: Under the direction of the Shift Supervisor and the supervision of the Program Supervisor, provide day to day care of individuals served and assist in the development and maintenance of self-help skills in those individuals.
Duties:

Performs direct care for assigned individuals so that prescribed care is maintained.

Completes assigned nursing duties.

Keeps individuals clean and appropriately dressed.
-
Applies all positioning, adaptive, and safety equipment properly.

Provides privacy to individuals.
-
Knowledge of all emergency procedures.
-
Completes body checks for temporary absence or discharge.
-
Follows all infection control policies and procedures.
-
Feeds or assists individuals with eating, following all dietary policies and procedures.
-
Accompanies individuals to appointments or hospital visits as needed.
-
Stays abreast of individuals’ condition, needs, and whereabouts.
-
Conducts room checks to ensure individuals are clean, dry, comfortable, and safe.

Implements programs, procedures and baselines.
-
Completes all documentation including baselines, care and observations and General Event Records.
-
Implements activity schedules, providing meaningful activities for individuals.
-
Communicates information and/or concerns in an effective manner to the appropriate persons.
-
Ensures school/day program equipment is ready and available.
-
Assists individuals in developing and maintaining ADL skills.
-
Completes all cleaning including maintaining individuals’ personal items and their rooms.

Practices safety techniques to prevent injury to individuals served, self and other employees.

Communicates with others according to HDC policies, informing the Shift Supervisor of contacts.

Follows shift change procedures.

Attends meetings and trainings as assigned.

Follows HIPAA and confidentiality policies.

Qualifications:
Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to be creative and learn new ideas
Ability to communicate well
Ability to be positive, caring, calm, cooperative, understanding, tactful and pleasant
Ability to work with people and be flexible
Ability to meet employment requirements (i.e. health screening, TB test)
Ability to lift from floor/carry/transfer individuals and adaptive equipment in excess of 50 pounds
Ability to withstand exposure to usual diseases and conditions associated with individuals with disabilities.
Ability to carry/escort individuals in excess of 50 pounds and utilize behavior techniques during behavior problems
Ability to use computer to navigate and enter information into web-based software and perform basic functions related to computer use (i.e. keyboarding, email, data entry)
Ability to understand and follow the policies and procedures of HDC
Training and Experience:
Previous work with adults or children with disabilities or nurse’s aide experience preferred.
